A solid action movie, if nothing else.īased on the novels by Lee Child, Jack Reacher is nothing so much as an American take on James Bond. Using his brains and his fists, as well as his peerless expertise as a long range shot, Reacher has to fight his way to the truth of what really happened and clear an innocent man of any accusations. When 5 people are killed with 6 shots, and the suspect in question puts out a call to help for Jack Reacher, the lone wolf shows up on the scene and starts looking for the deadly sniper who's truly responsible for these killings.

The plot of the film however is pure Lee Child, even while some of the elements might feel off to long running readers. While not bad, it's one of several glaring changes made to the series in its translation to the screen. No camera tricks are used to give an impression of greater size, which leaves Cruise to carry the performance on force of personality and quality of choreography. However, Reacher is intimidating both for his skills, and for the fact that he's well over six feet tall. For instance, Tom Cruise as the choice of Reacher draws on a long life of acting experience and skill as an action star. As an adaptation of the novels, Jack Reacher looks like it has the feel while ignoring certain details of the books. No matter where he goes and no matter what he does, Reacher has to put his muscle and his marksmanship skills to the test, saving the innocent and punishing the guilty with a sense of frontier justice that ensures the wronged and hurt can move on with their lives. "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" is in theaters Friday, October 21.Based on the novels by Lee Child, Jack Reacher is nothing so much as an American take on James Bond. If you’re a Cruise or Smulders fan, you should leave happy. Overall, if you head out and see "Never Go Back," I think you’ll leave thinking you saw a pretty good action film. She even gets her own scene where she takes a guy down. She becomes a bit of an annoyance as she uses electronics and later a credit card to get the trio traced, but eventually she becomes a helpful ally. I should mention there’s also a side plot about a possible daughter Reacher may have which gets him and Turner wrangled up with a 15-year-old girl. Robert Knepper ("Prison Break") is wasted as a mysterious villain who doesn’t really pull any punches in the film other than looking menacing and that's unfortunate. While Cruise and Smulders shine, you won't walk out of this movie thinking it’s the best film ever. No need to turn her into somebody's love interest just for the sake of a romantic storyline. I know Smulders can play a badass woman on screen.
